Commercial cargo vessels, worn out VHS tapes, electric hoverbikes and sci-fi user interfaces convey a distinct aesthetic that is hardcoded into Skanner’s geometric, prosthetic exoskeleton. Like items on a conveyor belt, Skanner’s letterforms follow each other in precise, rhythmic succession. Its squared off bowls allow for barcode-tight tracking while its horizontal terminals suggest a plethora of ligatures, of which a large variety is included in the typeface—123 of their kind to be exact. While Skanner is not based on any specific reference, Eurostile springs to mind. In comparison, Skanner introduces a constructed and rigorous design language as well as deep ink traps that contribute a subtle sense of warmth to the typeface.
